Call of Duty: Vanguard is a cross-generation game, meaning it was released for both Xbox One and the newer Xbox Series X and Series S consoles. However, the experience differs significantly between generations, and it is important to purchase the correct version to get the best performance on your hardware.
Editions and upgrades
Unlike some other cross-gen titles, Vanguard did not use Microsoft's Smart Delivery program for automatic upgrades. This means that the version of the game you buy matters.
- Xbox One Standard Edition: The disc version of the Xbox One Standard Edition of Vanguard is only playable on Xbox Series X/S via backward compatibility. It will not have any next-gen enhancements, such as better graphics or a higher frame rate. There is no upgrade path for the physical Xbox One disc.
- Cross-Gen Bundle: The digital Cross-Gen Bundle or the physical Xbox Series X version includes entitlements for both the Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S versions. The Series X disc contains both game versions.
